A few questions answered. Weddings

Do I have to wear Top Hat and Tails?
These days few wedding parties wear Top Hats, but Tails and 3/4 length coats are still very popular.

Am I too short for tails?
All Formal Hire jackets come in different length fittings, shorter men wear a short fitting, medium height wear a regular fitting, tall men a long fitting. Tails then should comparatively be the same length on everyone.
3/4 length jackets are shorter than tails and popular among those who don't like the full length.

I want to get married abroad.
Most hire companies offer an extended hire period of up to one month, Formal Hire charge an extra 50% of the normal fee for a two and a half week hire period. Make sure your holiday insurance covers hired clothing.

Some of my Groomsmen live away.
This is not unusual, suits can be provided with customers own measurements, but most hire companies will prefer professional measurements from a menswear store. Formal Hire can provide a measurement form and guide for customers.

When do I pick up my suits?
Formal Hire like customers to collect 2 days prior to the wedding at no extra charge. Some hire companies still hire suits out on the day before the wedding leaving little time to try on.

Can the Groom be different to the other men?
Many couples these days like an individual look for the Groom and sometimes the Bestman, with a more traditional look for the rest of the men. However it's really up to personal preference, there are no real rules to follow, as long as everyone looks smart!

How early should I book?
Formal Hire accept bookings up to two years in advance, but most couples book 12-9 months before the wedding. Normally the earlier you book the more money you save.

Evening Functions

What does black tie mean?
Black tie means Dinner suit, dress shirt and bow tie. Black is traditional and still very popular, but many men adopt a more modern look with a coloured bow tie / cummerbund or waistcoat. For Royal or Military functions, Black Tie means just that, with full Dinner suit.

What does white tie mean?
White tie events are far more formal, requiring full evening tail outfits with marcella accessories. Call in for further details.

First student ball?
Many school and sixth form colleges now organise a formal ball before leaving. Students receive special prices and dressing tips!
